About this Prosciutto Burrata Toast

This is the ultimate summer toast — buttery fried bread layered with salty prosciutto, creamy burrata, juicy tomatoes, herby basil oil, and a drizzle of sweet, syrupy balsamic. It’s everything you want in one bite: crunchy, creamy, salty, sweet, fresh, and rich. These ingredients are classic for a reason, and together they make a perfect meal, appetizer, or light lunch. Feel free to customize and get creative — this combo is endlessly adaptable.

Why you’ll love it

  • Peak summer flavors. Tomatoes, basil, burrata — it’s a dream team.

  • Simple but restaurant-level. Minimal effort, maximum flavor.

  • The texture is insane. Crispy fried bread + creamy burrata + jammy tomatoes.

  • Versatile. Serve it as a meal, brunch item, appetizer, or even a pizza inspo.

  • Customizable. Swap the prosciutto, change the herbs, or use flavored vinegars.

  • Fast. 25 minutes from start to finish.

Ingredients you’ll need

Basil Oil

  • Basil leaves

  • Olive oil

  • Garlic

  • Salt

Toast

  • Thick, delicious bread (homemade if you’re feeling extra)

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • Prosciutto

  • Burrata

  • Salted butter

  • Balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze

How to make it

Blend basil, garlic, olive oil, and salt into a smooth basil oil. Pan-fry buttered bread slices until golden and crisp. Layer each toast with prosciutto, a big smear of creamy burrata, and fresh tomatoes. Finish with basil oil and balsamic drizzle. Serve immediately while the toast is still warm and crisp.

Tips for success

  • Use good bread. Sourdough or homemade no-knead bread gives the best texture.

  • Salt your tomatoes lightly before assembling for extra flavor.

  • Use room-temperature burrata for maximum creaminess.

  • Pan-fry in butter + a touch of olive oil for extra color and crisp.

  • Add flaky salt at the end to make everything pop.

  • If using balsamic glaze, drizzle lightly so it doesn’t overwhelm the fresh ingredients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this ahead?
Not fully — assemble right before serving so the bread stays crisp. You can prep the basil oil in advance.

What bread works best?
A thick rustic loaf, sourdough, ciabatta, or your No-Knead Everything Bagel Bread.

Can I replace prosciutto?
Yes — use salami, soppressata, speck, or skip the meat for a vegetarian version.

Is mozzarella okay instead of burrata?
Yes! Fresh mozzarella works well, though burrata is creamier.

Can I add other toppings?
Absolutely — peaches, arugula, hot honey, Calabrian chili oil, roasted peppers, or marinated artichokes are all amazing additions.

What to serve with it

  • A crisp salad

  • Grilled shrimp or chicken

  • Panzanella

  • Fresh fruit (berries, melon, peaches)
